Insurance Solutions Group – Director of Originations

Sound Point Capital Management, a credit-oriented investment manager overseeing approximately $44 billion in total assets, is seeking a Director of Originations to join its Insurance Solutions Group. This is a senior, revenue-generating role responsible for sourcing and structuring capital-efficient credit investments for insurance company balance sheets.

The Director will work across Sound Point’s multi-strategy platform including asset-based finance, structured credit, real estate credit, direct lending and other alternative strategies to originate and execute transactions tailored to regulatory, capital, and portfolio objectives.

Sound Point maintains investment vehicles focused on performing, stressed and distressed corporate credit, commercial real estate, structured products, and consumer loans. Based in New York, the firm employs approximately 180 professionals and has grown steadily since inception.

Responsibilities

• Originate private credit and structured investment opportunities in collaboration with Sound Point’s investment teams.

• Develop and maintain relationships with sponsors, banks, arrangers, issuers, and institutional counterparties to generate differentiated deal flow aligned with insurance mandates.

• Structure transactions to optimize regulatory capital treatment (including NAIC designations and RBC efficiency), statutory accounting outcomes, and asset-liability alignment.

• Lead transactions through structuring, negotiation, approval, and execution.

• Evaluate relative value across asset classes with a focus on yield, duration, liquidity, and capital efficiency.

• Present investment opportunities to internal committees and insurance clients, clearly articulating risk, return, and capital implications.

• Monitor regulatory and market developments impacting insurance portfolios and identify related origination opportunities.

• Contribute to the continued growth and strategic development of the Insurance Solutions platform.

Qualifications

• 8–15 years of experience in private credit, structured credit, asset-based finance, investment banking, or insurance asset management, with a demonstrated track record of sourcing and executing transactions.

• Strong understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks, including NAIC designations, risk-based capital (RBC), and statutory accounting considerations.

• Experience structuring investments for insurance balance sheets.

• Broad credit expertise across corporate, structured, and/or real asset strategies.

• Established institutional relationships and strong commercial judgment.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional designation (e.g., CFA) preferred.

• Ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

• Willingness to travel as needed.

Salary Range

$200,000 – $250,000
